Madera County Transportation Commission (MCTC)

The Madera County Transportation Commission is the Regional Transportation Planning Agency (RTPA) and the newly designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Madera County. The City of Madera qualified as new urban area in 2000 with a population of 50,027 within the urban boundary established by the United States Census Bureau. The Madera metropolitan boundary covers the entire County of Madera. The Commission is responsible for the development and adoption of the Regional Transportation Plan and Transportation Improvement Program as required by state law.

The Commission’s role is to foster intergovernmental coordination; undertake comprehensive regional planning with an emphasis on transportation issues; provide a forum for citizen input into the planning process; and to provide technical services to its member agencies. In all these activities the Commission works to develop a consensus among its members with regards to multi-jurisdictional transportation issues.

Measure T 2007 Strategic Plan - Adopted Dec. 5, 2007

$213 million in new revenues

The 1/2 cent Transportation Sales Tax will provide $213 million for transportation improvements in Madera County according to financial projections for the next 20 years

Improvement Highlights:

1. Maintenance of local streets & roads (including maintenance districts)
2. Form a Citizens’ Oversight Committee
3. State Rte. 41: construct passing lanes between State Rte. 145 & Road 200
4. State Rte. 41: extend freeway between Avenues 10 and 12 with a new interchange at Avenue 12
5. Reconstruct/widen interchanges at the following locations:
      • Gateway Ave at State Rte. 99
      • 4th St. at State Rte. 99
      • Avenue 12 at State Rte. 99
      • State Rte. 233 at State Rte. 99
6. Widen the following streets & highways from 2 to 4 lanes:
      • SR 41 between Road 420 & State Rte. 49 (South of Oakhurst)
      • Gateway Avenue between Cleveland & Yosemite
      • Gateway (State Rte. 145) between Yosemite & State Rte. 99
      • 4th St. between State Rte. 99 & Lake with RR Crossing
      • Avenue 12 between Road 38 & State Rte. 41
      • Avenue 12 between State Rte. 99 & Road 32
      • Road 29 between Avenue 12 & Olive Avenue
7. Ellis/Avenue 16: reconstruct street & construct overcrossing between Granada & Road 26 with a new State Rte. 99 overcrossing
8. Cleveland Avenue: reconstruct/widen from 4 to 6 lanes between Schnoor & State Rte. 99
